The preschool program at MMS consists of three classrooms. The River and Reflection Rooms, both with 25 children ages three and four, and the Tree Top Room with 20 of our oldest preschool aged children. All classrooms are staffed with a team of three classroom educators, a pedagogical coordinator and a support team of educators that work throughout the school filling in where needed.
The goals of our preschool program are to continue to foster independence, to support developing empathy, compassion and conflict resolution strategies, and to present opportunities for children to engage in experiences that blend both creative and cognitive thinking. A Montessori materials play a crucial role in our program as they support the children's developing understanding of concepts in the areas of sensorial discrimination, language and literacy, mathematical and scientific thinking, practical life, and geography. Social/emotional, fine and gross motor development, creative thinking, and problem solving are also nurtured as children engage intentional experiences and work with materials

Our Preschool program values parent involvement and communication. You are welcome in the classroom to share talents, skills, or contributions. A weekly journal is sent to parents via email daily giving you a glimpse of ongoing classroom experiences containing photos, conversations, and reflections, as well as a monthly newsletter containing school wide information as one way of inviting parents into our learning. A Parent/Educator conferences are held twice a year and family events are held several times throughout the school year.
